Eddie Hughes has served as the Conservative Member of Parliament for Walsall North since June 8, 2017. Born in Birmingham, Eddie is the son of a bus driver and a cleaner, and he studied Civil Engineering at the University of Glamorgan. His early career was marked by significant local involvement, including a long tenure as a Walsall councillor starting in 1999. During his time on the council, he held various positions such as chairman of the Children’s Services Scrutiny and Audit committees, and he served on the West Midlands Police Authority and as Chairman of Walsall Housing Group.
As MP for Walsall North, Eddie Hughes has been a dedicated advocate for the areas of Willenhall, Short Heath, and New Invention. He has focused on key local issues, such as securing £36 million in funding for a new A&E department at Walsall Manor Hospital and working with West Midlands Mayor Andy Street to reopen the railway line in Willenhall. His efforts have also included securing significant funding through the Towns Fund and Levelling Up initiatives, aimed at improving local infrastructure, housing, and recreational facilities.
Eddie's commitment to his constituency is evident through his campaigns to reduce crime and anti-social behavior, reflecting his broader focus on community safety and quality of life improvements. His work has been characterized by a strong engagement with local residents and a determination to address the specific needs of Willenhall, Short Heath, and New Invention.
