We took ownership of the land around the shops recently, and whilst it has now been improved with a new car park and road surfacing, we have had repeated fly-tipping take place. Despite enforcement investigations last year and warnings, this was still taking place. Enough is enough.
This morning our teams arrived on site and made sure that all waste was disposed of, each of the businesses have been spoken to by officers, and most of the tenants have been spoken to as well. To quote someone from the Council, “They now know what we’ve done, why we’ve done it, and the consequences if they do not dispose of their waste appropriately”. Fly-tipping notices have also been positioned across the area as a reminder that we are watching what is going on.
The individual bins for each of the flats have been replaced with better provision, and these are fitted with lids that restrict the size of items that can be placed in the bin. This means that residents will be limited to putting bagged household waste in the bins and cannot use them to dispose of bulky waste.
Along with our waste teams cleaning up the area, our road sweepers have also been out and we have changed the locks on the gates.
If residents in the area notice any further fly-tipping or other anti-social activity, then please do let us know straight away using the report it tool on our website.
