What Can Go in Your Green Recycling Bin
Accepted Items:
- Plastic Bottles: Milk, pop, water, cleaning products, and beauty products (with tops on).
- Plastic Containers: Margarine tubs, butter tubs, soft cheese tubs, yogurt pots, and cream pots.
- Food Trays: Plastic ready meal food trays (except black ones) and clear food trays.
- Paper and Cardboard: Newspapers, magazines, junk mail, greeting cards, envelopes, wrapping paper, Yellow Pages, telephone directories, paperback books, writing paper, printer paper, shredded paper, cardboard boxes, cereal boxes, and washing powder boxes.
- Cans and Foil: Food cans (no pet food pouches), drink cans, clean foil, and foil dishes.
- Cartons and Bottles: Milk or fruit juice cartons (including Tetra Pak), glass bottles (all colours, no tops), and jars (no tops).
What Cannot Go in Your Green Recycling Bin
Prohibited Items:
- Black bin liners and bagged waste.
- Bottles containing liquid.
- Nappies and hygiene products.
- Takeaway pizza boxes and fast food wrappings.
- Food waste and dirty food containers.
- Black plastic food trays.
- Textiles (clothes, shoes, bedding).
- Electrical goods.
- Polystyrene and food wrappers.
- Shiny plastic wrappers (e.g., crisp packets, sweet wrappers).
- Tupperware, toys, bubble wrap.
- Hardback books, Pyrex or cooking dishes, crockery.
- Window glass, picture glass, drinking glasses, mirrors.
- Garden waste.
For items not accepted in the green bin, you can take them to the nearest Household Waste Recycling Centre (Fryers Road) or consider donating textiles to charity shops or using charity collection services.
Contaminated Recycling Bins
If non-recyclable items are found in your green bin, Walsall Council will tag the bin with a yellow label and it will not be emptied until the non-recyclable items are removed. Ensure only accepted items are placed in your green bin to avoid this issue.
